Wastewater treatment plants are systems designed to remove contaminants from wastewater, making it safe for the environment.
Wastewater treatment is essential to:
● Protect the environment and public health
● Reduce pollution in waterways and aquatic ecosystems, safeguarding flora and fauna
● Prevent the spread of diseases and protect water resources
● Reuse water for irrigation in drought-prone areas

Enkidec specializes in the design and construction of wastewater treatment plants developed for various sectors, including tourism.
We recently supplied and installed a biological wastewater treatment plant with an SBR process for a renowned tourist resort in Cape Verde.
The plant is equipped with a tertiary treatment section that enables the full reuse of treated wastewater for garden irrigation—an essential feature in a country frequently affected by drought.

The Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) process is an advanced technology for treating organic wastewater.
Unlike conventional continuous-flow systems, the entire treatment takes place in a single reactor operating cyclically through the following phases:
● Filling and denitrification
● Oxidation – nitrification
● Denitrification
● Oxidation – nitrification
● Sedimentation
● Discharge of clarified effluent
● Excess sludge removal
At the end of the biological treatment, the process includes a quartz sand and activated carbon filtration stage, providing an additional safeguard to capture any residual compounds not removed in earlier phases.

The SBR plant was built in a compact form inside a 40-foot container, divided into two main sections:
● Process tank for biological oxidation, nitrification, denitrification, and final sedimentation
● Technical room with electromechanical equipment and the main control panel
The purification cycle runs several times per day, fully automated and remotely monitored.
Thanks to its modular structure, the system’s capacity can be expanded by adding additional units.

The project was overseen by Enkidec in every stage, including:
● Technical design
● On-site installation
● Electrical and hydraulic connections
● Preliminary and functional testing

With over 20 years of experience, we design and deliver tailor-made systems capable of meeting the specific needs of every production context.
